Do you remember Christmas before electronics?
I remember being excited to find a Scrabble game as one of my Christmas gifts. The family would play all day. Sometimes I would play by myself when everyone else was busy cooking or talking. I could spend hours making words. Now we all have our own games of Words With Friends on our cell phones. It is sad how times have changed. Everyone is on phones or tablets. Family interactions may be an occasional "watch this". Teenagers hypnotized by their phones are like holiday zombies. You have to nudge them to get them to respond. We may be all together, but worlds apart.
I challenge each family this Christmas to pull out the traditional board games or buy some new ones. Encourage interactions between family members and don't get lost in social media or the Internet feeds. Sometimes you just have to regress to make progress. Let our goals be to reconnect with our family this Holiday Season. Happy Holidays to All! |
