Daily Decisions
Whether you eat that last doughnut in the breakroom or have a one-night stand with chocolate, our daily decisions could impact our lives for a little while or a lifetime.  The process of planning our next action could be detrimental or beneficial to the course of our future.  How do you make decisions?  Are you spontaneous and do things at a whim or do you think about it for hours or even days-months-years before you act?  There is no right or wrong to how decisions should be handled, but the process has to align with the goal.
Here are some tips on decision making:
1)Plan it out.
2)Remind yourself of your reason/purpose.
3)Surround yourself with positive support.
4)Smile.  Happy people want to stay happy and staying on track to achieve all you set out to do will do just that.

Deewatch Wedding Watches and Bracelets
Which month is "Wedding Month"?  I think the busiest month for weddings is April or maybe September or definitely June.  What do you think?

Well, finding a perfect gift could be just as confusing regardless of the month. Here is what we suggest.

Before the wedding from a parent or a close friend.
You can buy it for yourself too.

A Watch & Bracelet Set just as stunning as the dress...

Do it yourself...Diaper Cake

I make diaper cakes for my local customers, because there are challenges to shipping them.  When you look for them online, you are faced with some pretty hefty prices.   I've seem some that reach up to about $170 due to the costs of shipping such a fragile gift.  Well, if you desire a diaper cake for a baby shower or new mom gift, make it yourself.  All you need is a few supplies and a whole lot of patience.  Ready?

Step One:  Watch this video with Jessica Bailey - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ox5Hv-0fhA.  She goes through a pretty simple way to make one.  She lists all of the items you need.

Step Two: Once your diapers are stacked, it becomes all about the design.  Here are some of my design kits that you may purchase to help with the decorating.

Step Three:  Be Creative! Be sure to add your ribbons and some baby items to make it even more appealing to the eye.  You can use baby blankets, clothing, shoes, toys, and toiletries. My examples below are quite conservative.  Don't be afraid to step outside the box with your own design!

Very Important!
Do not do anything in your design to damage the diapers.  It is imperative that the diapers are part of the gift and remain usable.  New moms will love that they can slice away at the cake as they take the diapers away one diaper change at a time.   I wrap all of my gifts in a large gift bag for protection.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.  Happy Designing!

I had an interesting dream last night or what I remember of it was interesting.  I was walking down a street and everyone else seemed to be walking the opposite direction.  It was difficult to go against the crowd, but I was determined to push my way through.  This dream inspired my post.  It may not be easy but your struggle for what you believe in is always worth the battle! -- Carla

Saying "Look it up"

3/18/2017

Comments

Hmm?  It is so tempting.  Emily walks into the living room during your favorite show.  "Mom, what is a cylinder?"  You reply, "Look it up!"

At that moment, you feel assured that you have just encouraged independence and sparked a love of learning for your child.  Also, we want them to use those cool devices we buy them for holidays and birthdays.
Let's see...  When I type the word "cylinder" in a Google search, this is what appears:
Picture
I did not mention Emily's age, but learning about the characteristics of geometric figures is typical during the middle-school grade levels.  Given that Emily knows the definitions of "parallel" and "curvilinear", she may have a standing chance, and your suggestion may be an effective learning tool.   OK, this is not likely!

What if the conversation directed Emily to explore her own thoughts in the beginning - to tap into her prior knowledge of cylinders?  Here is another spin on the conversation.  "Mom, what is a cylinder?"  You reply, "Well, Emily, what do you think a cylinder is?"  This shows Emily that you are interested in what she already knows and that you value her thoughts as an independent learner.  Additionally, it causes Emily to form her own opinions about what the definition could or could not be, which will likely help her filter through the search topics.  With your undivided attention, this could also be an opportunity to help Emily learn the skills needed to perform quality online research and not to just rely on the first link that aligns with her reading level.

Here are three things to remember when answering your child's questions - be patient, lead but do not dictate, and always value the process of learning.    We learn through our experiences.  Take advantage of those opportunities to actively learn together.

Resume Tip

What does a resume need: an objective or a summary section?
Writing a resume can be a challenge in 2017. As you conduct your research on what to include or exclude, you may realize that a general objective statement should only be used in specific situations. Traditionally, you would add your objective to let the hiring manager know which job you seek.  Well, if you are applying in a field in which you have little experience, the use of an objective section may be helpful in filling in the extra space with information about the type of job you want and what you believe you can bring to the table.
The use of a professional summary is gaining momentum in replacing the employment objective. More and more people are opting to share information about their work experience and details on what they have accomplished. Some even include data and percentages to validate their claims. As a resume writer, I feel the use of a professional summary is very important. A synopsis of your career milestones and successes not only tells an employer what you are capable of, but it showcases your finest qualities and strengths – a key to getting a company's attention.
