Makeup is one of those topics that varies from person to person. I have been wearing makeup since my high school years. After struggling with acne, I had to take action about how I apply my makeup and remove it. There are two rules that I live by: "Never apply makeup with your hands" and "always use a makeup remover and not soap".
Application: Get good quality make up brushes and application pads. Change them often. If your brushes are losing bristles or your pads are leaving crumbs, you need new ones. I change mine monthly. Keep your items organized. Get a makeup box with compartments so your tools are not pressed against each other when they are not being used. This will allow time for drying without the exposure to outside bacteria. People who leave items on the bathroom sink are breeding all kinds of bacteria on their make-up brushes and pads. Cleansing: I buy bottled makeup remover for when I'm at home and removal cloths when I travel. I keep a pack of cloths in my purse too for when I go to the gym after work. Preparation is key: Having a routine with makeup is just as important as brushing your teeth. You may not see the results until years later, but protecting your skin and looking your best should not be compromised.
